Hidden River Cave isn't just a destination; it's an invitation to embrace the thrill of exploration. It's a reminder that there's more to this world than meets the eye, that beneath the surface lies a realm of wonders waiting to be discovered.
This is an experience you don't want to miss. You can see the cave entrance from the main street and you can walk to the bottom of the steps where the cave entrance begins but if you want to walk the bridge, you need to take the guided tour. It's only about an hour and WORTH IT!
I learned so much that I didn't even know I wanted to know! The entry fee is minimal and the funds support the non-profit group that protects caves and works on environmental issues.
Not gonna lie... the underground suspension bridge was pretty cool!
Hidden River Cave is a WET CAVE. Before this excursion, I didn't know the difference between caves or that there even was a difference.
Wet Cave: A wet cave is characterized by the presence of active water flows, which can include streams, rivers, pools, and even waterfalls within the cave system. These caves typically have ongoing water movement that contributes to the shaping and erosion of the cave passages over time. In wet caves, you might encounter water formations such as stalactites, stalagmites, flowstone, and various unique mineral deposits formed as water drips, flows, and interacts with the rock formations.
Dry Cave: A dry cave, on the other hand, lacks significant ongoing water flows within its passages. While there may still be evidence of past water activity in the form of water-eroded features, such as scallops or pot holes, these features may not be as pronounced or extensive as in wet caves. Dry caves often have relatively stable and dry conditions inside their passages, which can preserve delicate formations and artifacts over long periods of time.
It's important to note that the distinction between wet and dry caves isn't always absolute. Some caves can have sections that are wet while others are dry, and the presence or absence of water can change depending on factors such as rainfall, season, and geological conditions.
So whether you're a seasoned spelunker or a first-time explorer, Hidden River Cave's enigmatic charm promises an experience that will ignite your passion for adventure! It did for me!
