Sometimes the sweetest creative projects begin with what we already have.
I've been on a mission lately to simplify my craft space. If you're a crafter, you probably understand how quickly supplies accumulate. Little scraps of paper, unfinished wooden pieces, embellishments, and those odds and ends we keep because we just know we'll find a use for them someday.
Well, that someday finally arrived!
While sorting through my supplies, I started imagining what I could create with a few of the things I already had. And before I knew it, a tiny autumn-inspired journal nook was coming together.

A Tiny Home for Little Books
The project begins with a simple unfinished wooden box, measuring just 5¾ inches square.
With a couple of small wooden pieces, I created miniature shelves. Then came the fun part: adding little handmade journals, colorful autumn leaves, and a tiny pumpkin.
I wanted the finished piece to feel like a cozy little corner of a bookstore on a crisp October afternoon. Something that celebrates books, creativity, and the simple beauty of autumn.
And of course, I couldn't create a miniature bookshelf without making a miniature journal!

The Little Journal That Started It All
One of my favorite parts of this project is the miniature handmade journal.
It has tiny pages, a decorative cover, and a delicate leaf charm. There's something so satisfying about making a book small enough to fit in the palm of your hand.
I also created templates so you can make your own miniature books. You can experiment with different papers, covers, and embellishments, turning your little nook into a collection of tiny handmade treasures.
Imagine using scraps of your favorite scrapbook paper or even adding miniature photographs from an autumn adventure!
Make Your Own Autumn Journal Nook
I loved how this project turned out so much that I decided to put together a limited number of DIY kits using some of the supplies from my craft collection.
Each kit includes the unfinished wooden box, shelf pieces, precut autumn leaves, a tiny pumpkin, bookmaking templates, and other little details to help bring your miniature scene to life.
And because I wanted everyone to have at least one special little book to begin with, each kit includes a miniature journal handmade by me, complete with a leaf charm.
You can paint your wooden box, stain it, cover it with decorative papers, or leave the natural wood exactly as it is.
There's no right or wrong way to create your miniature nook. That's what makes it yours.

A Little Reminder About Creativity
One thing this project reminded me is that creativity doesn't always require buying something new.
Sometimes the most interesting projects come from looking at what we already have and imagining something different.
An unfinished wooden box becomes a tiny bookshelf. A few scraps of paper become miniature journals. Three colorful leaves and a little pumpkin turn it all into a celebration of autumn.
And suddenly, those forgotten supplies have a whole new story.
That's the kind of creativity I love: simple, thoughtful, and a little unexpected.
If you'd like to create your own, I've put together a limited number of DIY Miniature Autumn Journal Nook Kits in the Pen Pal Adventure Book shop.
